Fire at Black Rock Oyster Bar Fairfield

Just before 5pm Monday firefighters quickly responded The Black Rock Oyster Bar on Black Rock Turnpike for a report of a fire in the basement of the restaurant and that the fire was near a propane tank. Firefighters quickly doused the blaze and vented the basement with fans. Black Rock Turnpike at Commerce and Chambers was closed for a short time but has since reopened. The fire is under investigation. It did not extend into the dining area of the restaurant and it expected to reopen shortly.

Significant Damage to Black Rock Yacht Club

[caption id="attachment_3857" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="Yacht Club Raised Off It's Foundation During The Storm"][/caption] Bridgeport--Black Rock Yacht Club at 80 Grovers Road received some serious damage from Irene early Sunday morning.  Firefighters discovered that the build was lifted off its foundation.  We are told the dance floor inside is raised up at least one foot.  The pool area also received significant damage.  The bar was unscathed. City Orders Mandatory Evacuation in Low-Lying Areas

BRIDGEPORT, CT (August 27, 2011) –Following a briefing with City Officials at the Emergency Operations Center on Saturday and upon conferring with State officials, Mayor Bill Finch announced a Mandatory Evacuation for all residents living in low-lying areas as the path as of 4 p.m. EST. “It is of the utmost importance that everyone living in the low-lying areas evacuate to higher ground immediately,” said Mayor Finch.
