I was in very "good hands" today as I visited the David Gonzalez Agency Inc. at 200 Connecticut Avenue in Norwalk. Christian Flores has been a big fan of DoingItLocal.com for a couple years now and wanted more information on adverting on our site. I've been a customer of Allstate since 1974 (told you I'm old) so it was a good time for me to go over my auto and homeowner's policy. I also added their auto club for just $37.50! Chrisitian was great at explaining what the different aspects of my policies, taking all the confusion of what is what and what is important. Today, Marty McCarthy and Phil Segneri, partners - Fire Engine Pizza Co., presented RYASAP and the City of Bridgeport with a check in support of theRYASAP’s Safe Asleep program. The program receives 25-40 calls per day and installs approximately 4,000 free smoke alarms in Bridgeport’s single and multi-family homes and apartments each year, saving lives every day. Prior to the Safe Asleep program, which began in 2005, Bridgeport had one of the highest incidents of fire related deaths in the United States. With a large population of children, families, seniors and persons with disabilities living in poverty, many households have limited resources to maintain their homes, let alone purchase and install smoke alarms and batteries.

Connecticut's Senate on Wednesday approved sweeping new restrictions on weapons and large-capacity magazines, a response to last year's deadly Newtown elementary school shooting that would give the state some of the country's tightest gun control laws. New York and Chicago had the toughest gun laws with over 400 killed in New York City and over 500 killed Chicago in 2012. No report on how those in the hood should turn in their illegal guns or how this will prevent another Newtown incident but both parties are patting each other on the back for approval. Republican Senator McKinney leads the way.
2:12am--#Monroe Ct-- A fire broke out in the second floor bedroom of a home at 24 Squire Road in the Barn Hill section of Monroe around 2:30am Thursday. A first-arriving volunteer firefighter and three police officers pulled an unconscious man downstairs and out to the front lawn where he was treated by Monroe paramedics and EMTs. A woman and four children escaped on their own, while another firefighter carried the family dog out to safety. The fire was contained to the master bedroom and was quickly extinguished, but smoke filled the entire second floor of the roughly 3,500 square foot home. The man pulled from the fire regained consciousness before being transported to the hospital but the extent of his injuries are unknown. A volunteer firefighter…
