Depressing Day?

A lot of suicide attempts in the area today.  We won't report specifics but a Fairfield man today was rushed to the hospital after intentionally swallowing anti-freeze to end his life.  Firefighters in Bridgeport cut down a person who attempted to hang themselves, performed CPR and saved their life.  In one town a 13 year old was transported for evaluation for suicidal thoughts and in another town (towns intentionally not posted) another 13 year old intentionally attempted to overdose on her psychiatric medication.  There appears to be an increase in psychiatric calls but earlier in November 2012 Governor Malloy cut $80 million to health and human services.

Trumbull Business Closings

Marie’s serves up its last lunches; Mackenzie’s becoming CVS Two long-time Trumbull Center businesses, with deep town roots, are closing this week. Marie’s Sandwich Shop, 920 White Plains Road, was serving its final customers Monday afternoon, after 47 years. Mackenzie’s Pharmacy, just a few doors down from Marie’s is closing Friday and reopening as CVS on Monday, March 18.  Mackenzie’s has been in business for about 80 years. “It’s an economic decision,” said owner Kathleen Hallahan. “Traffic in the center has been significantly reduced and even more so by the loss of Porricelli’s. National Shooting Sports Foundation donating 2,500 gun safety locks today

Common Sense Bill for Students Making Gun Shapes in School

Baltimore MD--Under Proposed Bill, Students Who Form Finger In Shape Of Gun Would Not Be Suspended State Senator J.B. Jennings say he wants it to bring some common sense discipline to state schools.  Last week Anne Arundel County school officials suspended 7-year-old Joshua Welch last week for eating a pastry in the shape of a gun.   Senator Jennings said “These kids are 6 or 7 years old. They don’t understand what they’re doing,”  Jennings says zero tolerance rules on school campuses are going too far, so he wrote a bill.
