Update on Construction at the intersection of Main Street and Whitney Avenue
The long-awaited traffic signalization project at the intersection of Main Street and Whitney Avenue will enter its final stage on Monday, September 23, 2024. Vertical structures have been received and prepared for installation. Cranes will be operating from adjacent parking areas and Whitney Avenue during the week of September 23rd. The installation of the traffic signal and control systems is expected to take approximately 2-3 weeks. Sidewalk installation will be ongoing from the intersection at Whitney Avenue to Dunkin Donuts for the next few weeks, followed by milling and paving along Main Street, weather permitting, during the week of October 14th. Please be sure to anticipate delays and plan accordingly.

ARREST MADE IN DEADLY DAYTIME SHOOTING ON SPRING STREET
As a result of the criminal investigation led by the Bridgeport Police Department’s Homicide Squad, Detective Tom Harper was able to secure an arrest warrant for 46-year-old Roshay Williams charging him for the September 11, 2024, murder of 37-year-old Akeem Shoucair-Grant. On Sept. 11, 2024, at approximately 5:45 pm, Akeem was shot multiple times in the 100 block of Spring Street. He was transported to a local hospital where he passed away a short time later. Roshay Williams, of Bridgeport, CT, turned himself into Bridgeport Police Headquarters this morning and was served with the warrant charging him with Murder and Criminal Possession of a Firearm. Four-Vehicle Crash in Bridgeport Leaves One Driver in Critical Condition
On September 18, 2024, at approximately 10:09AM, the Emergency Operations Center received a call for a collision involving four vehicles. The collision occurred near the intersection of East Main Street and York Street. The caller reported, an operator of a black Toyota Camry struck several cars, and possibly had a seizure. Bridgeport Fire Engine 15, American Medical Response (AMR), Bridgeport Police Officers, and the Bridgeport Serious Crash Investigation Team responded to the location. Stratford News: Gun Found At School UPDATE
A firearm was discovered on the grounds of Nichols Elementary School during the evening of September 18, 2024. It was found covered in dirt and debris, both inside and out, and had rusted significantly from prolonged exposure to the elements. The firearm matches the description of one reported missing after an incident that occurred nearby in 2017. The Detective Bureau is currently investigating whether there is a connection between this firearm and the 2017 incident. Authorities have confirmed that the firearm posed no immediate threat to the public, as it appears to be inoperable due to its current condition.
