 The Westport Parks and Recreation Department, the Downtown Merchants Association and Westport P.A.L. have announced that the date for the Annual Children’s Halloween Parade is Wednesday, October 29, 2014. Children and parents are asked to meet at the corner of Post Road and Main Street (in front of the old YMCA) at 3:30 p.m. The parade will proceed up Main Street, along Avery Place and then to Town Hall. Entertainment, refreshments and a small gift will be provided on Veterans Green across from Town Hall at 4 p.m. This event is for all children, especially 8 and under. Please note there will be NO PARKING on Main Street between 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. while this event is taking place.…

Westport News: Wedding Crasher

Westport CT— On Saturday October 11,2014 at 7:10 PM Westport Police responded to The Longshore Inn on a report that a male had taken a bird cage containing an undetermined amount of wedding cards from a newlywed couples wedding reception.   The male who posed as a guest of the reception or hotel was observed loitering in the lobby area of the inn, talking on the phone, eventually grabbing the birdcage containing the cards and fleeing on foot from the Inn. Police set up a perimeter on the Longshore property and conducted a thorough search of the grounds, with the assistance of a Norwalk Police K-9. Plant A Tree In Honor Of A Special Person  Just in time for Veterans Day, November 11th, the Westport Tree Board is pleased to announce a special “Memorial Tree Program” for Veterans Green in downtown Westport. Trees may be purchased to honor veterans, both past and present, for their service and sacrifice to our country. The honoree must be a veteran to qualify for a memorial tree in this location. Due to limited space in Veterans Green, only nine (9) planting locations will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. The size and species of each tree will be determined by the Westport Tree Warden. A donation of $2,000 will include the cost and planting of the tree, 5-year maintenance and a 4” x 8” commemorative plaque.…

CT--On Tuesday, September 30, 2014 the Westport Police Department swore in two new police officers. The ceremony took place in the classroom at police headquarters at 2:45 P.M. The hiring of both officers fills vacancies created by the two retirements since June 2014 and brings the department to full strength. The following individuals were sworn in as Westport Police Officers: Ruta Pratt, age 39, is a 1995 graduate of Naugatuck Valley Community College with a degree in Criminal Justice. Prior to her hiring by the Westport Police Department, Ms. Pratt was a police officer with the Waterbury Police Department since October 2002, most recently at the rank of Detective. 6:44am--An attempted traffic stop at Post Road West and Kings Highway turned into a pursuit into Norwalk on Strawberry Hill where 3 suspects fled on foot.  There were 4 in the car.  One remained in the car and police quickly apprehended him.  Police have 3 in custody and K-9 is now tracking the 4th. The Westport Library Premiers Exhibit about Downtown

#WESTPORT, CT — In an effort coordinated with the Your Downtown public outreach campaign, the Westport Library has premiered a new exhibit entitled “Thinking About Westport’s Future Downtown.” It is a visual representation, in the form of panels filled with quotes and “Word Clouds,” of the answers to questions from the Your Downtown Survey and comments made during the Your Downtown Visioning Workshops which took place earlier this summer.  The display is located in the Westport Library’s first-floor Riverwalk Hallway and on the staircase leading up to the main floor.
