Westport Veterans Day Services Announced

#Westport CT--William Vornkahl, President of the Westport Veterans Council announced that the Town of Westport will hold Veterans Day services on Wednesday, November 11 in the Town Hall auditorium. The public is invited. At 10:30 a.m., the Westport Community Band will present a “Patriotic Salute to All Veterans”program which will include marches and patriot tunes.The services will begin at 11:00 am, and include the Veterans Day address by Staples High School Senior Matt Johnson and remarks and Proclamation reading by First Selectman Jim Marpe   This report made possible by:

Westport’s New Animal Control Officer

The Westport Police Department is pleased to announce that Gina Gambino will assume the position as the town’s Animal Control Officer. She is taking over the role vacated by Animal Control Officer Peter D’Amico who served successfully in that position from 1989 until his retirement on November 1st of this year. Gina brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience in the field. She has worked in the animal control departments of Easton, Fairfield, and most recently Bridgeport over the course of the last eight years. In Bridgeport she was the Chief Animal Control Officer responsible for a large municipal shelter. Along with her experience, Gina is also a graduate of the University of Connecticut (2006) with an Associate’s Degree in the study of Animal Science. She holds…

The Westport Parks and Recreation Department, the Downtown Merchants Association and Westport P.A.L. announced today that the Annual Children’s Halloween Parade will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2015. Children and parents will meet at the corner of Main Street and Post Road East at 3:30 The parade will go up Main Street, along Avery Place and then to Town Hall. Entertainment, refreshments, and a small gift will be provided on Veterans Green (across from Town Hall) at 4 p.m. This event is for all children, especially for those aged 8 and Please note there will be NO PARKING on Main Street between 2:30 pm and 4:30 pm while this event is taking place. Southport News: Pedestrian Killed by Train

Metro North Railroad is reporting: The New Haven Line continued scattered residual delays of up to 30 mins due to earlier police activity near. Southport. UPDATE: Fairfield Police told me that it was a woman who attempted to jump in front of a southbound train but the train was able to stop in time.  She then was struck by a northbound Amtrak train headed to Boston.   Metro North has taken over the investigation. 1:57pm--#Metronorth--#Southport CT--A pedestrian has been struck and killed while on the tracks at the Southport Train Station.  Currently on track one is operational.

Westport Domestic Violence Awareness

(Westport, CT) October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. On Tuesday, October 13, 2015 members of the Westport Police Department, Westport Domestic Violence Task Force and the Y’s Men joined forces to raise awareness for domestic violence. They greeted commuters during the morning hours and provided literature from the Domestic Violence Crisis Center (DVCC) of Norwalk, which provides domestic violence services to our area. Commuters were asked to take a look at the information when they had time or to pass it along to someone in need of help. Westport News: Paving Program Announcement

#Westport CT--Road Work Commencing October 13 Public Works Director Steve Edwards today announced the commencement of the 2015 Paving Program. The following roads will be subject to milling and paving operations in the coming weeks beginning Tuesday, October 13. The work should be complete by early November,  Cross Highway (between Main Street and Compo Road)  Red Coat Road (from Cavalry Road to dead end) Residents of these roads are requested to park off of the street during milling and paving operations so as to not impede the work crews. Advance notice and ‘NO PARKING’ will be posted on the streets approximately 24 hours prior to operations commencing. On Tuesday September 29th, 2015 Mark Connors turned himself into the Westport Police Department after learning that there was a warrant for his arrest. On July 28th, 2015 the Westport Police Department received a complaint of an alleged sexual assault which occurred locally. The victim alleges that the suspect had grabbed intimate parts of her body during the incident. Arrested was Mark Connors (age 47) of Trumbull Connecticut Connors was charged with Sexual Assault 4th C.G.S 53a-279(a) Disorderly Conduct C.G.S 53a-182 Connors was released after posting a $2500 bond and was issued a court date of October 9th at Norwalk Court.   This report made possible by:

On Tuesday September 29th, 2015 Amy Gustafson turned herself into the Westport Police Department after learning that there was a warrant for her arrest. On July 17th 2015 the Westport Police Department received a complaint that Gustafson was allegedly intoxicated and had lifted her shirt during an outdoor picnic at Longshore Marina. #Westport CT--#Fairfield CT--In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, both Fairfield and Westport will have pink police cars for the month of October.   Westport sported a 2016 Maserati, with decal work (vinyl wrap) was donated by Maserati of Westport, but will be returned to the dealership after October.  Fairfield PoliceChief Gary MacNamara has authorized the repainting of a police cruiser as a reminder to this important disease that has touch everyone in one way or another.
