Fatal Crash on Route 8 Under Investigation

Trumbull, CT – On October 11, 2024, at approximately 11:07 AM, Connecticut State Police from Troop G responded to a fatal motor vehicle crash on Route 8 Southbound near Exit 7 in Trumbull. Preliminary investigations indicate that the vehicle, driven by Leonel Diaz, veered off the roadway into the grassy shoulder and collided with a rock wall for unknown reasons. Mr. Diaz was transported to St. Vincent's Medical Center by Trumbull EMS with serious injuries. A passenger in the vehicle, Maria Nieves, suffered life-threatening injuries and was also transported to St. Vincent’s Medical Center, where she was later pronounced deceased. Trumbull Police arrested local suspects as they attempted to flee the scene of a burglary to a van on Lindeman Drive during the early morning hours on Tuesday, October 8, 2024. Reynaldo Ayala, age 23, and Nyleah Ramos, age 22, both of Berkshire Avenue, Bridgeport, were apprehended by police as they attempted to flee from police on a scooter. At approximately 12:00 AM, Trumbull Police were called to investigate an active burglary in progress involving one of the work trucks on the business property of 30 Lindeman Drive. Stolen Car Pursuit Ends in Crash, Two Arrested

A vehicle pursuit and arrest followed a stolen car incident this morning. At around 9:30 AM, a Wilton Police vehicle was struck by a stolen grey Mazda occupied by two men, which fled toward the Merritt Parkway. The Mazda had been stolen at gunpoint in Bridgeport on September 26. Fairfield Police spotted the Mazda shortly after, and a pursuit ensued when the driver accelerated. The vehicle exited at Exit 51, where officers tried to deploy tire deflation devices, but the driver re-entered the Merritt Parkway, driving in the wrong direction. Police UPDATE: Trumbull Police are now on the scene of a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian on Church Hill Road (Route 127) in Trumbull, near the intersection of Main Street (Route 111). The crash involves serious injuries and the roadway in this area will be closed for several hours. Church Hill Road will be closed between Quality Street and Main Street, and Main Street will be closed to Church Hill Road for the next several hours. Update on Construction at the intersection of Main Street and Whitney Avenue

The long-awaited traffic signalization project at the intersection of Main Street and Whitney Avenue will enter its final stage on Monday, September 23, 2024. Vertical structures have been received and prepared for installation. Cranes will be operating from adjacent parking areas and Whitney Avenue during the week of September 23rd. The installation of the traffic signal and control systems is expected to take approximately 2-3 weeks.  Sidewalk installation will be ongoing from the intersection at Whitney Avenue to Dunkin Donuts for the next few weeks, followed by milling and paving along Main Street, weather permitting, during the week of October 14th.  Please be sure to anticipate delays and plan accordingly.

Route 25 Crash With Ejection

UPDATE: A teen from Rhode Island lost his life in a rollover crash on Route 25 in Trumbull late Friday night. Connecticut State Police responded to the scene near Exit 9 on Route 25 South around 11 p.m. after receiving reports of an accident. According to police, a BMW X5 attempted to pass a BMW X1 from behind and shifted to the right, sideswiping the X1. The collision caused the X5 to spin out of control and crash into several trees. The victim, identified as 18-year-old Timothy Campbell from Cumberland, R.I., was a passenger in the back seat of the X5.
