Stratford News: Sexual Assault

#Stratford CT-- In June 2023 Stratford Police Department received a complaint from an adult female alleging she was sexually assaulted by a known male. The female accused Roderick C Ricketts, 44 years old of Stratford, of inappropriately touching her in mid-June. After a thorough investigation into the allegations, an arrest warrant was applied for and granted for the following charges: Sexual Assault 4th Degree 53a-73a On July 20, 2023 Mr. Ricketts, turned himself in, was processed, posted his bond, then released with a court date set for 7-31-2023.

New England Guitar Society Returns LIVE on July 22            The Stratford Library, 2203 Main Street in Stratford, CT will welcome back the popular New England Guitar Society in a live concert on Saturday, July 22 at 2 pm. TOWN OF STRATFORD INITIATES COOLING CENTER PROTOCOL DUE TO EXTREME WARM WEATHER ADVISORY 

STRATFORD, CT – Mayor Hoydick is advising residents, particularly those who are most vulnerable, to take precautions ahead of the extreme temperatures that are forecast to impact over the next several days. Due to receiving an Extreme Warm Weather Advisory notice from the State of Connecticut, the Town of Stratford has initiated its Cooling Center protocol. This protocol is enacted from 2 PM Wednesday July 5th to 5 PM Friday July 7th, 2023.  For Overnight and long-term sheltering residents need to contact the 221 System by dialing 211. Town Council Unanimously Passes Mayor’s Budget; Approves Resolution to Provide Additional $1,000,000 for Use by Stratford Public Schools

The Town Council unanimously passed Mayor Laura R. Hoydick’s proposed Fiscal Year 2024 operating budget for the Town of Stratford last night.  Mayor Hoydick commented, “I would like to thank the Town Council for passing our Town’s budget, and to our Town departments for taking a collaborative, sound, and pragmatic approach to this budget. While the current economic climate proved challenging when balancing the Town’s services and the burden placed on our tax paying citizens, I am proud that we were able to keep the first increase in over five years to a minimum, at a 1.88% increase in taxable rate. Stratford Library Hosts StoryWalks Throughout Town

The Stratford Library Reference Department has announced the creation of a “Forest to Shore StoryWalk Tour”. A StoryWalk is a book, with pages separated and laminated on wood stakes that are placed along a path or trail for people to walk and enjoy a story. The program is funded by a grant from the Connecticut State Library & Library Services and Technology Act. Sarah Mellinger and Lisa Wargo of the SLA Reference Department applied for and implemented the grant into action. The Tour features five StoryWalks each lasting about a week at various locations around Stratford. During the week of each StoryWalk there will be a "Main Event" program at the site.
