Baltimore MD--Under Proposed Bill, Students Who Form Finger In Shape Of Gun Would Not Be Suspended State Senator J.B. Jennings say he wants it to bring some common sense discipline to state schools. Last week Anne Arundel County school officials suspended 7-year-old Joshua Welch last week for eating a pastry in the shape of a gun. Senator Jennings said “These kids are 6 or 7 years old. They don’t understand what they’re doing,” Jennings says zero tolerance rules on school campuses are going too far, so he wrote a bill. It bans school leaders from suspending students who make the shape of a gun with their fingers or food, or students who draw a gun on a piece of paper. …
A lawsuit filed by the National Restaurant Association and others argued that Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Board of Health illegally regulated beverage sizes, and a judge has invalidated the ban. Bloomberg promises to appeal. Salon has the full story and transcript here.......
Police from Fairfield asked the Public Health Committee Wednesday to allow them to regulate hookah lounges, which they said can currently act as de facto nightclubs in their town. Capt. Joshua Zabin, the Fairfield Police Department’s patrol commander, said officers often respond to calls at hookah lounges, which operate from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. He said it has a negative impact on the neighborhood. Earlier tonight an Amber Alert was issued, looking for a white 2001 Chrysler Town and Country minivan out of North Stonnington CT. We were the only news source to report that Deborah Denison had taken her grandchildren from daycare, had a .38 revolver and had suicidal tendencies. We were the first new source in the country to report that the van was located around a lake running near Foxwoods parked by Lake of Islles. Trooper One, the state police helicopter is in the air searching. The Major Crime Unit was called to the scene to investigate. Sadly the van was found with all three dead in the minivan along with a suicide note in the van. Troopers and EMS responded…
WASHINGTON (NNS) -- The aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) refueling complex overhaul (RCOH) will not start due to a lack of funding, the Navy said. Lincoln was expected to move to Newport News shipyard next week to begin the overhaul. However, as a result of the fiscal constraints resulting from the ongoing continuing resolution (CR), the contract for the refueling complex overhaul (RCOH) has not been issued to Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc.
