Update on I-95 Tanker Accident. Sections of I-95 to remain closed until at least Monday.

Thursday May 2nd, at approximately 5:30 AM, a dramatic event unfolded on Fairfield Avenue near Exit 15 on I-95. A tanker truck, carrying a substantial 8,500 gallons of gasoline, caught fire following a collision, resulting in a hazardous situation under the Fairfield Avenue overpass. Fortunately, due to the swift action of our first responders, tragedy was averted. Reports confirm that a firefighter sustained a leg injury and was promptly transported to Norwalk Hospital for treatment. However, there were no fatalities, underscoring the effectiveness of the emergency response team. In light of this incident, it is anticipated that I-95 will remain closed until at least Monday. Drug Arrests Made in Six Month Investigation

On Monday April 29, 2024, the Norwalk Police Special Services Division, Norwalk Emergency Services Unit Tactical Response Team, Stamford PD Tactical team, Darien PD, US Marshal’s Service, and the Bridgeport Office of the DEA executed 3 search warrants in Norwalk and one in Darien. This was the result of a 6 month investigation into Fentanyl trafficking in the greater Norwalk area. To date 17 Federal and state arrest warrants have been served. Approximately 15,000 bags of Fentanyl were seized, as well as 300 grams of pure fentanyl, 1 firearm, cocaine and approximately $13,000 in US Currency.

Norwalk News: Stabber Arrested

On April 26, 2024, at 3:00 PM, Norwalk Combined Dispatch received a call for a man stabbed inthe area of 129 South Main Street. Norwalk Patrol Officers arrived in less than one minute andfound the victim being treated by a bystander. Officers rendered medical aid to the victim whowas soon transported to Norwalk Hospital by Norwalk Paramedics for serious injuries. Officerssecured the crime scene and began to canvass for witnesses. Norwalk Police Detectives arrived and assumed the investigation. Detectives recovered multipleitems of evidentiary value, interviewed witnesses and reviewed video surveillance. On March 17, 2024 at 8:31 AM, Norwalk Combined Dispatch received information from NYPD stating they received a call that a woman was being held at gun point at a home in Norwalk.Norwalk Patrol Officers responded to the scene, established a perimeter, and began to contact the residents. Officers quickly determined the call to be a hoax. The Detective Bureau assumed the investigation and determined the caller, Maurice Smith, an ex-boyfriend of the victim, initiated a swatting prank. Norwalk News: Arrest made in Sexual Assault Case

On June 6, 2023, the Special Victims Unit initiated an investigation into a sexual assault complaint. After a thorough investigation led by Detective Patrick English, Fran Garcia-Pineda was identified as the suspect. It was discovered that Garcia-Pineda resided in Miami, Florida, leading to the issuance of an extraditable arrest warrant by Stamford Superior Court. Detective English collaborated with a Norwalk Police Officer assigned to the United States Marshals Service Violent Fugitive Task Force, resulting in Garcia-Pineda's arrest on April 4, 2024. He was subsequently extradited to Norwalk on April 16, 2024, and charged with Sexual Assault in the Third Degree.

A Norwalk man was arrested on gun and narcotics charges while driving around with an unsecured baby on his lap. On March 31, 2024 at 11:49 AM a patrol officer observed a man driving around with a baby on his lap. The officer pulled the car over and did not see an infant car seat anywhere in the car.
