Unions surprised Finch seeks concessions again

BRIDGEPORT -- In Mayor Bill Finch's first term, he squeezed more than $20 million in concessions from the city's labor unions. Now, in his second term, he's asking for even more.  But union leaders, who had no advance notice of the $1.6 million in concessions factored into the 2013-14 budget unveiled Tuesday, say there isn't much left to give.  CT Post has the full story here......

Geoff Fox moving to California

Geoff Fox, the popular Connecticut weatherman who fell from grace, is heading west.  Fox and his wife, Helaine, have put their 3,367-square-foot colonial on the market and plan to move to Southern California to be closer to their daughter, Stefanie, who works in TV production in Hollywood — and because they’re done dealing with winter, Fox said Monday.  The New Haven Register has the full story here......

Potatoes leads to rhubarb between brothers

(Bridgeport, CT – April 1, 2013) -- Two brothers were released without bond after a disagreement over potatoes led to a confrontation after they did not see eye to eye Officers Carlos Pabon and Pasquale Speranza were sent to a Brewster Street address Sunday afternoon on a report of two brothers fighting. William Downey, 53, of Stratford, stated he was in the kitchen making potatoes when his brother, John Downey, 57, stated he was making too many potatoes and punched him. John Downey, of Milford, admitted to throwing a punch at his brother and also stated that William Downey had pulled out a cooking pot and tried hitting him with it. Tony Hwang & Jerry Greenfield, the co-founder of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, joined together to support CT House Bill 6519 legislation at CT General Assembly’s Public Health Committee hearing.  HB 6519 would require the labeling of genetically engineered foods (GMO) in our food supply.  http://1.usa.gov/Y76Dkv Rep. Distraught man found by police

3:2pm--#Fairfield CT--Police, and EMS were called to the southbound rest stop on the Merritt Parkway this afternoon for a distraught possibly suicidal person.  When they arrived at the rest stop  the man had left on foot in the wooded areas on Congress Street, then Sport Hill Road and into the cascade area near the General Electric headquarters.  Fairfield's K-9 Ruger assisted in the search.  The man was located shortly after 5:30pm., A prescription bottle  in his possession was empty.  Not chancing a possible overdose the man was transported a nearby hospital.

Van into a house

11:02pm--#Bridgeport CT--A van coming down Pearl Harbor Street sneak attacked an unsuspecting fence taking the  corner of it down, crossing Granfield Avenue and crashing into the right hand corner of a house.  The driver was able get out of the van on her own.  The house integrity structure was not compromised.  One of the occupants said it sounded like bomb going off when it happened.  Police are investigating.
