#Bridgeport CT-- Ground breaking for the new Harbor Yard Amphitheater took place this morning after phase one of three is complete. Design one was design, structural engineering, final drawings and permitting. The new structure is expected to be twelve stories or one hundred and twenty feet tall, almost as tall as the People's Bank Tower down the street on Main Street. Phase two will be demolition, site work and footings put in place. State three will spend $15 million with 258 construction jobs. Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo welcomes eight spur-thigh tortoises (Geochelone sulcata) who are making the Zoo their home for the summer. The African spur thigh tortoise, also known as the spurred tortoise, is the third largest species of tortoise in the world, after the Galapagos tortoise and the Aldabra giant tortoise. BRIDGEPORT – Bridgeport Mayor and Democratic candidate for Governor Joe Ganim today called for the Connecticut General Assembly to pass Senate Bill No. 540, AN ACT AUTHORIZING SPORTS WAGERING AND ONLINE LOTTERY DRAW GAMES IN THE STATE. The bill sets up legal, highly regulated, taxable sports betting in Connecticut. If enacted, it is estimated that legalizing sports betting could bring the state another $44 million in annual revenue. Gaming industry estimates in Connecticut currently show that state residents spend more than $600 million in illegal sports betting, generating some $36 Million in profits for illegal sports bookmakers.
