I felt like I was sent back in time when I visited the Famous Fifties Diner at 472 Huntington Turnpike in Bridgeport.  I met with Kathryn Sanchez who opened the diner in April with her husband.  The first thing you notice is the Coca Cola red and white color theme and all the 50's memorabilia on the walls.  I wanted to point out that there was something wrong with the flat screen above the counter seating but then it dawned on me they intentionally wanted it to display in black and white! Ribbon Cutting At Stan’s Jamaican Kitchen

Today was Stan's Jamaican Kitchen's official ribbon  cutting.  Located at 16 Tunxis Hill Road (next to DeSantie Tire) near the Bridgeport town line on North Avenue.  Stan's Jamaican Kitchen is Fairfield's only Jamaican restaurant.  I'm yet to try it with my family but a couple of my Facebook friends have already said they have the best oxtail anywhere.  Karen Gordon is the owner and has named it Stan''s in honor of her father.  They are open 11am to 8pm, and take out is their main business although there is a counter for eating in. It was a pleasure meeting Karen Gorden at Stan's Jamaican Kitchen located at 16 Tunxis Hill Road in Fairfield, right near the town line of North Avenue Bridgeport.  Stan's Jamaican Kitchen is Fairfield's ONLY Jamaican Restaurant.  They specialize in Jerk Chicken, Oxtail, Brown Stew Chicken, Escovitch Tilapia, Curry Goat (my favorite) and Curry Chicken.  Take out is their main business but there is a small window counter for eat in.  Hours are Monday through Saturday 11am to 8pm and Visa and MasterCard is accepted, delivery is not available at this time but they are working on it. My long time friend Don Mastersanti and his son Joe recently opened The Pantry at 384 East Main Street in Ansonia, right next door to Fitzpatrick's.  I've known Don and his family since the 80's when Don owned Scorpio Productions, one of the first wedding DJ's in the area.  He was one of the best DJ's too; that pride has spilled over into their new restaurant that specializes in gourmet comfort food.   You can get anything from a Chef Salad, Meatball sub, Lasagna, Sheppard's Pie and many daily specials.  They are open for breakfast and lunch. I met with Carl from Salerno's Apizza at 1398 Barnum Ave, Stratford, one of the original and still one of the best pizza places anywhere.  When Carl's father started in 1947 there were only about 5 pizza places around in the area.  If you are familiar with them you like me am looking forward to their Plum Tomato Pies usually available in mid August.  I cannot even begin to describe how delicious they are.  All their pies are great, made fresh, nothing is ever from frozen.  Simply the best!   How about some likes for Carl! My Family Flipped For Flipside in Fairfield
