FAIRFIELD, Connecticut (January 16, 2015) – January is radon awareness month. According to the Environment Protection Agency (EPA), radon is an “odorless, tasteless, invisible gas that is produced by the decay of naturally occurring uranium in soil and water”. Radon can be found in the outside air, and in buildings and houses. Exposure to radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking. The EPA estimates that every year about 21,000 lung cancer deaths in the United States are due to radon.   The Fairfield Health Department will be hosting an informational presentation on Radon on Monday, January 26th from 12:30-1:30pm at the Fairfield Main Library (1080 Old Post Road, Fairfield) in the Memorial Room.
