Arrest of 25-year-old Elijah M. Vines for Criminal Attempt – Assault in the 1st Degree + Weapons Violations / Bridgeport Police Department Detective Bureau Case no. 23D-0587

On April 8, 2023, at approximately 11:20 pm Bridgeport Police received numerous ShotSpotter activations and citizens reports of shots fired within the 1400 block of Fairfield Avenue. Patrol Officers responded to the area and located a crime scene at the BP Gas Station (1464 Fairfield Avenue).  The scene indicated a shootout had recently occurred at this location.  Officers secured the scene and contacted the Detective Bureau.  Detective Aaron Rivera was assigned as the case officer and immediately took charge of the investigation. While officers were safeguarding the gas station, a victim presented at an area hospital suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg.  That victim was identified as 25-year-old Elijah Vines of Bridgeport Connecticut.  It has been determined…

Bridgeport News: Police Apprehend Armed Suspect

On the evening of Monday, May 6th at 4:04 pm, the Bridgeport Police Department responded to a Shot-Spotter activation indicating one round fired on the 200th block of Granfield Ave. Upon arrival, multiple police units began searching for both potential victims and suspects. A resident reported seeing a vehicle speeding away and a person dressed in all black firing a single shot before fleeing towards Success Village on foot. Officers found several children and citizens outdoors due to the pleasant weather. Shortly after, they apprehended a suspicious individual, later identified as 28-year-old Garfield Brown from Bridgeport, who was altering his appearance by removing clothing and a face mask. The Bridgeport Police Department's Homicide Unit is attempting to identify the adult males pictured here. They are wanted for firearm offenses only, related to the robbery/double homicide at an illegal gambling establishment at Stratford Ave. and Logan St. on March 30th, 2024.There are no arrest warrants at this time. This is solely a request for assistance in identification. These persons frequent the East End of Bridgeport. They are to be considered armed and dangerous. Mayor Ganim and The City of Bridgeport Announce Grant Funding for Perry Memorial Arch Restoration

Bridgeport, CT – Yesterday, Mayor Ganim and Senator Richard Blumenthal announced state grant funding that will be used for restoring the Perry Memorial Arch, located at the entrance of Bridgeport’s Seaside Park. The $500,000 grant will be used to make many improvements on the archway, which includes: replacing the arch’s metal roof and gutters, pinning of walls and granite, repairs to the arch’s foundation, interior cleaning, plumbing and draining of abandoned formwork, cleaning of the bronze plaque, and other improvements. Restoration of the archway is set to begin July 2024.
