DoingItLocal is run by Steve Krauchick. Steve has always had interest with breaking news even as an early teen, opting to listen to the Watergate hearings instead of top 40 on the radio. His interest in news spread to become the communities breaking news leader in Connecticut’s Fairfield County. He strongly believes that the public has right to know what is happening in their backyard and that government needs to be transparent. Steve also likes promoting local businesses.

Police Activity Scare at Happy Dollar in Fairfield

Patch costs AOL about $150,000 per site, $160 million a year

AOL is spending about $160 million a year on Patch, which equates to about $150,000 to run each individual Patch site annually, according to an analyst’s estimate. Units from all three West Haven Fire Companies responded to the fire scene. On arrival command reported smoke conditions on the 1st and then the 7th floor of Building 2. Iowa man tries to lure teen and gets mom’s fist instead

"I got down to the alley and I confronted him. I said, 'Why are you staring at the kids?' and he looks at me and says, 'I want to marry the red head.' I came unglued at that point. Water Resuce in Bridgeport

Shortly after 9pm a call that a woman was in the water on Water Street at the train station in Bridgeport.  The fire department was quickly on scene and sent divers to hold the woman until a rescue boat could bring her ashore.  The woman does not speak English so it is unknown if she jumped or was pushed.

U.S. Consumer Confidence Drops to Three-Decade Low

Confidence among U.S. consumers plunged in August to the lowest level since May 1980, adding to concern that weak employment gains and volatility in the stock market will prompt households to retrench. The Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan preliminary index of consumer sentiment slumped to 54.9 from 63.7 the prior month. Rollover Accident Shuts Down Fairfield Ave in Bridgport

[caption id="attachment_3411" align="alignleft" width="150" caption="Four vehicles were involved in the crash."][/caption] A terrific rollover on Fairfield Avenue near Albion Street in Bridgeport just before 5pm [caption id="attachment_3412" align="alignright" width="150" caption="Witnesses say this pickup truck rolled over twice before coming to a rest."][/caption] today.   Two people are in critical condition and five were rushed to area hospitals.    The vehicle on its side was resting on it's roof when about twenty five witnesses rushed over to to bring it to its side.   Witnesses told me the pickup truck rolled over twice.  Five ambulance were called to the scene and about twenty firefighters assisted in the rescue.  Police department have just begun their investigation.  This intersection has been plagued with numerous crashes…
