DoingItLocal is run by Steve Krauchick. Steve has always had interest with breaking news even as an early teen, opting to listen to the Watergate hearings instead of top 40 on the radio. His interest in news spread to become the communities breaking news leader in Connecticut’s Fairfield County. He strongly believes that the public has right to know what is happening in their backyard and that government needs to be transparent. Steve also likes promoting local businesses.

Red Tide Brings Electric Blue Waves

Red Tide near San Diego creates Bioluminescent Ocean Waves. Not every wave glows an electric blue but a few do. The color and name comes from plankton which appear red in the day and glow at night. Fairfield Firefighters Donate $17,000 to Wounded Troops

The Fairfield Firefighters recently donated $17,000 to Operation Gift Cards, a local program that visits troops in military hospitals who were wounded in Afghanistan and Iraq. Since October 2005, the Operation Gift Cards’ 74 monthly/bimonthly visits have presented over $499,000 in post exchange (military department store) gift cards, special group product donations (Girl Scout cookies, laptops, corporate gift certificates etc.) and over $50,000 worth items on the "wish list" for both the wounded troops and their families. Thanks to the incredible effort of the Fairfield Firefighters this years Stratton Faxon Fairfield Road Races were the best ever, according to Fairfield Half Marathon President Steve Lobdell, a retired Captain with the Fairfield Fire Department. Fire at Gregory Circle in Stratford

Around 8pm Sunday night firefighters received a call from 113 Gregory Circle that smoke was entering her apartment from another adjoining apartment. Firefighters responded and quickly responded and put out the blaze. It appears an electric extension cord may be the cause. The Fire Marshall was called to the scene by 8:20pm. One woman appeared to be checked by EMTs for smoke inhalation.

One car accident on Park Ave. Bridgeport

Police are investigating a single car accident on Park Ave. at the intersection of Cleveland Avenue. The accident occurred shortly after 8pm. The driver did not appear to be injured at the time despite rolling the car on it's side. It was raining at the time of the accident but it is not known at this writing if it contributed to the accident. Of course if we get any updates we will let you know.

Electron Boy-Saved Seattle Passes At Age 14

In real life he was Erik Martin, a boy with a constellation of severe health problems and a rare form of cancer. But in his imagination he was Electron Boy, a superhero who saved Seattle from the forces of darkness and evil one spring day last year. Erik died Friday at home. He was 14.

Boaters Rescued in Stratford

[caption id="attachment_4308" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="2 boaters resuced in Stratford"][/caption] 12:25pm--Stratford--Police Marine unit responding to an overturned 15 foot boat in the Housatonic River near the Route One bridge. Two people were rescued, no inures reported. A nearby boat came and rescued the passenger as the owner of the overturned vessel waited for the police boat to arrive. It is unknown at this time why the boat overturned. Ironically, the rescue boat was in Fairfield earlier when Fairfield unveiled their new boat obtained from Homeland Security funds to be used regionally. Police Chief Gary MacNamara said that "rescues happen year round" and this is case in point. Special thanks to John Kovach from the Stratford Star for contributing the photo.
