DoingItLocal is run by Steve Krauchick. Steve has always had interest with breaking news even as an early teen, opting to listen to the Watergate hearings instead of top 40 on the radio. His interest in news spread to become the communities breaking news leader in Connecticut’s Fairfield County. He strongly believes that the public has right to know what is happening in their backyard and that government needs to be transparent. Steve also likes promoting local businesses.

Fire in Milford

As we were first to report, there was a fire early this morning at 1:52am Milford Fire Department called in their second alarm at 451 New Haven Avenue. Firefighters report this is a four story building with heavy fire on the fourth floor appears to be from a gas fire place. By 2:01am Stratford Fire Department send mutual aid to Milford. By 2:10am firefighters were warned that the roof was weak from the fire. By 2:25am fire was under control and fire officials started releasing units from the scene. By 3:00pm recall of fire had been called, firefighters continued overhauling the fire scene. No injuries had been reported.

13 Year Old Murdered In New Haven

New Haven--13 year old shot and killed at at 153 Porter Street, police are investigating. This is New Haven's 28th homicide this year. Around 7:30pm police responded to Porter Street for a 13 year old male shot in the head. Police have just begun their investigation. UPDATE--Police are looking for one suspect, his last name is Burress and is a black male who resides at 41 Lodge Street in New Haven. He is armed with a shotgun that he used on the victim. He fled in a 2009 or 2010 2 door Chevy. If anyone has any information are asked to call New Haven Police at 203-946-7065.

Girl Burned In West Haven

We've received a report that a 9 year old girl had burned a significant amount of her hair off with a lighter similar to the type used to light BBQ grills. She does have some burns to her scalp and face, but non-life threatening. While the fire department was on scene there was a large scale domestic incident at the home and police was called to the scene. The police intervened and the child was transported to the hospital. EMS crew reports that the mom was extremely agitated and was tailgating the ambulance with her vehicle. The EMS crew asked for hospital security to await their arrival and separate mom from both the crew and the girl until she can…

Circus Street Party for Bridgeport Students

The Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus hosted a birthday bash preview for children enrolled in the City of Bridgeport’s after school Lighthouse Program outside the Arena at Harbor Yard.   Fun activities  included  face painting, a bounce house and balloon animals.   The children also were shown how to juggle scarves, balance feathers, and more, including meeting some famous Ringling Bros.®clowns.

Stand Off on Carroll Ave. Bpt Ends Peacfully

Two women and two children were in an apartment on Carroll Avenue around 6pm this evening when one of the women wanted to take her life.  The other woman was able flee with one child  and called police.   After three hours police were able to talk her out.  Special thanks to News12 in helping us with this story, they will have a full report at 10pm

White Substance Floating In Gould Manor

Fairfield--Friday-7:45pm--Fire officials are placing a super absorbent pads into a catch basin that empties into Gould Manor after a white substance was found floating in it.  Firefighters conducted numerous tests but cannot identify the substance.  It is GUESSED that it could be  paint after someone cleaned a paint brush and the water went into a storm drain.  After absorbing as much of the material as they can, firefighters will use a containment type buoy to contain the substance to prevent it from entering the pond and contact the EPA.

Barnum Museum Receives $10k From Feld Entertainment

Alana Feld of Feld Entertainment presented a check to Kathleen Maher, the Executive Director/Curator for the Barnum Museum. The donation of $10,000 is for the restoration and preservation of the Barnum Museum which was damaged from the tornado that struck the City of Bridgeport last year. This will help aid the museum in opening sooner than expected. Mayor Bill Finch was named Honorary Ringmaster. Bill Evans, Senior Meteorologist at WABC-TV was Honorary Chairman for the Barnum Museum Gala which was held earlier.
