His interest in news spread to become the communities breaking news leader in Connecticut’s Fairfield County. Appeals court upholds dismissal of elephant suit

WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal appeals court on Friday upheld the dismissal of a lawsuit brought by animal rights activists that claims the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus abuses its elephants. Feld attorney John Simpson said the appellate ruling supports the company's $20 million racketeering lawsuit against Ryder, animal rights groups and their attorneys that claims they committed bribery, obstruction of justice and other illegal acts in filing the elephant suit. Simpson said the purpose of the company's suit is to keep animal rights groups from using the federal court system to pursue "radical agendas."  Read full article.....

Bridgeport Police Academy Graduation

24 members of the 34th police academy training class in Bridgeport graduated at the city's Common Council chambers Friday night. Chief Gaudette told the graduating class "I am asking you to always treat people like a member of your family because all these people are part of the community you serve." They were led by the Police Department's Honor Guard and retired police detective Peter Stevens playing the U.S. Marine Hymn on the bagpipe. Shooting in Fairfield on Fairchild Avenue

Shortly after 5pm police were called to American Customs at 264 Fairchild Avenue.  Two employees were handling a gun when it discharged, the bullet went through a door, through a wall and struck the victim in the chest.  He is being operated on at St. Vincent's Hospital in Bridgeport for non-life threatening injuries.

Bridgeport’s 17th Homicide

Approximately 1:30 on Thursday an officer on patrol, came upon a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road on Vine St. near Coleman St. The operator of the vehicle advised the officer that he found the victim lying in the street. Upon checking on the victim the officer found that the victim had been shot and called for assistance and medics. The victim remained conscious and advised the officers that he had been shot down the street referring to Park Ave. The victim has been known to frequent the area. Stubborn Fire in Fairfield

Fairfield Firefighters were on scene at 779 Stratfield Road right before 7pm Sunday night for a very stubborn chimney fire.  Firefighters said the chimney is very large and has 4 flues.  They suspect heavy creasoe was to blame.  Firefighters first tried to contain the blaze with portable fire extinguishers but had to resort to a hose when the flames persisted.  The fire department departed the scene at 9:50pm.
