DoingItLocal is run by Steve Krauchick. Steve has always had interest with breaking news even as an early teen, opting to listen to the Watergate hearings instead of top 40 on the radio. His interest in news spread to become the communities breaking news leader in Connecticut’s Fairfield County. He strongly believes that the public has right to know what is happening in their backyard and that government needs to be transparent. Steve also likes promoting local businesses.

Fairfield Police Explorers Attend Cadet Police Academy

#Fairfield CT--The Fairfield Police Explorers attended the 2017 Cadet Police Academy held at the University of Hartford in West Hartford, July 23-29. A total of 350 cadets and 90 police officers and civilian staff from Connecticut, New York, and Massachusetts attended the week-long academy. The Cadet Police Academy is a comprehensive and challenging experience in the field of Law Enforcement. The Academy has been designed to provide Cadets with a broad exposure to modern day police work. Each level is a one week program and takes the full week to complete.  All staff members are volunteers to the program and are either sworn Law Enforcement Officers or adult advisors for their respective programs attending the academy.   The Cadets were…

Trumbull Weekend Pursuit

#Trumbull CT--Trumbull Police arrested five (5) teenagers in a stolen vehicle after they were involved in a theft at the Westfield Trumbull Mall and then led officers on a high-speed pursuit Saturday for several miles. The vehicle was finally stopped on Route 25 in Trumbull where police apprehended the four (4) juveniles and one 18-year-old from Hartford: Johnny Aspiliare.   The incident began when a mall employee reported that her bag was stolen from her as she sat inside her vehicle during her lunch break. A young male, later identified as a 16- year-old juvenile from Waterbury, reached into the vehicle and grabbed the bag off of the passenger seat through the vehicle’s open window. Bridgeport News: Bank Robbery

3:00pm--#Bridgeport CT-- As I was the first to report, at about 3 pm there was a bank robbery at Chase bank on Boston Ave. 123 Boston Ave. Female passed a note to the teller.  White female in her 20's thin, wearing a white t-shirt, black yoga pants, and a baseball cap.  No one injured. The robber made off with $500 cash and no weapon was displayed.

Fatal Crash After Police Pursuit

UPDATE: Police say the Jervon Winston, 22, of Brooklyn, New York was the driver of the car who died in this accident.  He was not wearing a seatbelt.  Police confirmed our report that he did not negotiate the curve of the ramp, and went straight down an embankment into a tree.   UPDATE: A state police accident summary said the 2015 Chrysler 200 involved in the crash is owned by Ari Rent a Car in Linden, N.J.  The driver has not been identified.  My sources told me the car was stolen and the driver had no identification on him.   11:17pm--#Stratford CT--#Trumbull Ct-- #Fairfield CT-- An off duty state trooper was struck by a car on Barnum Avenue Cutoff.
