Police UPDATE:
Fairfield Police received several 911 calls reporting that a bank robbery
had occurred at Peoples Bank, located within Stop & Shop at 1160 Kings Highway Cutoff. Officers,
K-9’s and Detectives were immediately dispatched. Witnesses reported seeing the suspect fleeing on
foot running out of Stop & Shop and zig-zag westbound through the parking lot between parked
vehicles. The suspect fled prior to police arrival and is believed to have fled the scene in a vehicle
after K-9 tracks were unsuccessful.
It was determined a lone white male, described as 5’8’” tall with long shoulder-length hair, wearing a
black hat and grey button-down shirt with a dark-colored tie entered Stop & Shop and presented
the teller at Peoples Bank a note and displayed a firearm.
The Peoples Bank employee complied with the suspect’s demands. The suspect fled with an
undetermined amount of cash and exited Stop & Shop. There were no reports of injuries during the
incident.
At this time there is no known suspect connection between the Peoples Bank Robbery that occurred
at this location on 9/30/2020 or the Stratford Robbery that occurred earlier today.
A surveillance photograph of the suspect is being provided and we are asking for the public’s help in
identifying the person responsible for this crime.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Fairfield Police Department Quality of Life Unit at
203-254-4606.
