Home Invasion in Bridgeport–A tall Hispanic male reportedly barged into an apartment at 140 Fairfield Avenue assaulting the female occupant, tying her up and taping her mouth shortly after 2pm today. The woman finally freed herself and called police at 5:48pm. She had to call from a neighbors apartment because the assailant took her phone. Police are investigating.
Calling In A Bank Robbery?-A bank employee at The Bank of Fairfield at 2248 Black Rock Turnpike (next to Trader Joe’s) received a phone call shortly after 3:15pm today from a male that sounded as if he was mumbling. She was unable to understand what he said but she thought she heard him say he was coming in at 3:30 to rob the bank. When the employee attempted to call the man back she still could not understand what he was saying. This is breaking news and police are still on the scene. No robbery appeared to be in progress while I was on the scene. I will update this as the information comes in. UPDATE–4:24pm–Spoke with Sergeant Lussier from the Fairfield Police Department, a perimeter was immediately set up around the bank as a precautionary and nothing came of it when she was updated at 4pm. Police are continuing their investigating.
Bridgeport Mayor Finch is hosting a downtown community meeting today (Tuesday) at City Hall Annex, 999 Broad Street, starting at 5:30 p.m. The meeting is open to all downtown residents, business owners and employees. City department heads, including Police Chief Joe Gaudett, Fire Chief Brian Rooney and Public Facilities Director Charlie Carroll, will provide updates about improvements and public safety.
