8AMish–#Monroe Connecticut–Shortly after 8am Monday, volunteer firefighters from the Monroe, Stevenson,

and Stepney fire departments responded to a reported house fire at 16 Hillside Lane in the Whitney Farms section of town. First arriving firefighters found an active kitchen fire, and made an aggressive attack to extinguish the blaze before it could extend into other areas of the house.  Three engines and a ladder truck were on scene under the direction of Monroe Fire Chief George Lattanzi. No residents or firefighters were injured and units cleared the scene in about 90 minutes. The kitchen sustained heavy fire damage but the rest of the house only suffered smoke damage and can be repaired. According to Fire Marshal Bill Davin, the fire was caused by cooking on the stove top, and smoke alarms properly activated and notified the occupant.
