3:14pm–#Bridgeport CT–A 3 year old boy on Poplar Street ran out to chase a ball and was hit by a car which stopped and cooperated with police. When I go to calls like this it is easy to get apprehensive on what the result was. I’m happy to report the child was alert, not seriously injured and EMS from American Medical Response were showing great compassion as they always do.
As I was leaving the scene firefighters were dispersing to check on residents in the neighborhood to make sure they have a working smoke detector since they were in the neighborhood and no longer needed for the call. If you live in Bridgeport and need a smoke detector firefighters will install one at no charge and no questions asked. Call 203-335-8835.
This is a partnership with Regional Youth Adult Social Action Partnership and over 50,000 smoke detectors have been installed in over 12,000 homes. 143 document fires Since the program began, there have been 143 documented instances of fires in homes with smoke alarms installed for free by the Bridgeport Fire Department. In each of those incidents, residents of those homes were alerted by their smoke alarm and able to escape safely without injury.
