Multiple online sources say the term “cool” was said to have been popularized in jazz circles by tenor saxophonist Lester Young in 1933.  The Laborde-Gelman Co. Store at 1138-1144 Main Street in Bridgeport may have this first honor.  Here is an advertisement in the Bridgeport Farmer newspaper dated June 20, 1910 saying the store is cool.  Air conditioning was invented but did not go into commercial use until 1922 when Carrier made the units small enough to be practical.  1910-06-20 Cool Store
