Bridgeport Police report on the story we reported last night when it happened>
#Bridgeport, CT – Detectives are investigating whether a city man shot overnight was wounded with his own gun while attempting to rob a 45-year-old man.
“This remains a very active investigation. Detectives have a clear understanding of what happened and will make at least one arrest and recovered a handgun that will never be used in another crime,” Police Chief Joseph L. Gaudett Jr.
Police responded to Bridgeport Hospital for two injured males who arrived separately minutes apart. One suffered lacerations to his head. The other suffered gunshot wounds his arm and hand.
Napoleon Orellana, 45, who had facial injuries, stated the other male, identified as Alexis Vallejo, 24, attempted to rob him and that Vallejo was shot during a struggle.
Orellano gave this account: He stated was picking up a female acquaintance in the area of Gregory and Columbia streets. When he arrived, he said Vallejo entered his car with a gun and began striking him in the head. The gun discharged during the incident and Vellejo was wounded, he stated.
Vellejo fled the car and attempted to get to the hospital in a private vehicle but the vehicle crashed en route. He entered the on foot hospital at 3:07 a.m. At 3:11 a.m., Orellano arrived at the hospital in his vehicle. He told police that there was a gun in his car the belonged to the would-be robber. The handgun was recovered.
The incident remains under investigation by detectives, who will seek arrest warrants.
