On Saturday morning at 10:15 AM the Fairfield Emergency Communications Center received a call reporting a trailer truck full of garbage on fire and the transfer station located at 530 One Rod Highway. Fairfield Fire Department Engine 1, Engine 3, Engine 4, Ladders 1, and

Car 3 responded and arrived on scene at approximately 10:22 AM to and found very heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear and side of a trailer truck that contained garbage. Fire personnel immediately began an aggressive attack on the fire. Water supply become a large challenge as the first two fire hydrants that the department attempted to use were frozen and unusable, requiring the companies to located a third hydrant that operated. Assistant Chief Schuyler Sherwood, who was the incident commander, stated “the severe cold made extinguishing this fire very challenging as some of the equipment was freezing and the water from the fire created extremely icy operating conditions”. The fire was not completely extinguished until the entire load of garbage was off loaded onto the parking lot.

The trailer truck was owned by Enviro Express out of Bridgeport. The Fire Department remained on scene until approximately 11:57 AM. The fire department reminds every homeowner that it is critical that you make sure the hydrant nearest your home is clear of snow, especially as we expect more snow over the coming days.

 

UPDATE: Firefighters reporting it is a trailer that has been disconnected from the truck and only light smoke is showing from the trailer.  There is fire in the trailer and they are going to work on it.

Subjefe Schuyler Sherwood, quien era el comandante del incidente, declaró que “el frío severo hecho extinguir este fuego muy difícil ya que algunos de los equipos estaba helada y el agua del fuego creado condiciones de funcionamiento extremadamente heladas”. El fuego no se extingue por completo hasta que toda la carga de la basura se cargó fuera de hacia el estacionamiento.

Carro 3 respondeu e chegou no local em cerca de 10:22, e encontraram fumaça muito pesado e chamas vindo da traseira e lateral de um caminhão de reboque que continha lixo. Pessoal fogo começou imediatamente um ataque agressivo no fogo. O abastecimento de água tornar-se um grande desafio, pois as duas primeiras bocas de incêndio que o departamento tentaram usar estavam congelados e inutilizável, exigindo que as empresas localizadas uma terceira hidrante que operava. Assistant Chief Schuyler Sherwood, que era o comandante do incidente, declarou que “o frio intenso fez extinguir este fogo muito desafiador como alguns dos equipamentos estava congelando e a água do fogo criado condições de funcionamento extremamente geladas”. O fogo não foi completamente extinta até que toda a carga de lixo foi off carregado no estacionamento.

O caminhão de reboque era de propriedade de Enviro Expresso de Bridgeport. O Corpo de Bombeiros permaneceram no local até cerca de 11:57. O corpo de bombeiros faz lembrar cada proprietário que é fundamental que você tenha certeza que o hidrante mais próximo de sua casa está livre de neve, especialmente à medida que esperar mais neve nos próximos dias.
