(#Bridgeport, CT – July 18, 2013) – A city woman faces child endangerment and other charges after she drove off with someone else’s Cadillac with children in the back seat.
Officer Edward McKiernan was flagged down Wednesday by a man who stated his car and young children had been taken. He stated that he had just purchased a used car that his friend drove home for him. The man stated he wanted to take the Honda for a test ride, and he left his friend with his girlfriend’s Cadillac, which had his two children inside. Also present was a woman they had just met and knew only as Yummy, the victim stated.
Before driving off, the victim told his friend not to leave Yummy alone in the car, he told police.
However, the friend went into the victim’s Atlantic Street home to use the bathroom and when he emerged the car and children were gone.
The two men drove around looking for the car and then flagged down McKiernan.
While they were talking, the two men spotted the car traveling on Atlantic Street a few blocks up. The officer caught up to the vehicle in the 400 block and pulled it over.
Yummy, who was later identified as Charita Mack, 23, of Bridgeport, got out of the car and attempted to run. McKiernan checked on the wellbeing of the children and then chased down and arrested Mack.
She faces two counts of risk of injury to a minor, two counts of reckless endangerment, taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s permission and interfering with police.
The children were not harmed. Police made a referral to the Department of Children and Families.
