UPDATE: A teen from Rhode Island lost his life in a rollover crash on Route 25 in Trumbull late Friday night.

Connecticut State Police responded to the scene near Exit 9 on Route 25 South around 11 p.m. after receiving reports of an accident.

According to police, a BMW X5 attempted to pass a BMW X1 from behind and shifted to the right, sideswiping the X1. The collision caused the X5 to spin out of control and crash into several trees.

The victim, identified as 18-year-old Timothy Campbell from Cumberland, R.I., was a passenger in the back seat of the X5. He succumbed to his injuries, while three other occupants in the SUV, which had Rhode Island plates, were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver and passenger of the BMW X1 were uninjured, according to state police.

The road was closed for several hours while investigators worked at the scene, but it has since reopened.
