LIBRARY TO OPEN SUNDAYS BEGINNING OCTOBER 6

Special Programming Announced The Stratford Library, 2203 Main Street in Stratford will reopen on Sundays beginning October 6, 2024.  Hours on Sunday will be from 1-5 pm and will continue until May 18, 2025. On opening day (October 6) the Library will return with its popular “Sunday Afternoon Talks” series featuring returning guest speaker/author Hamis Lutris.  The author will discuss his new novel, Earth Ascendant: Awakening.This is the first of four volumes of a fast-paced, character-driven fantasy/science-fiction series. Update in Two Officers Injured, Shoplifting Suspects Arrested After High-Stakes Pursuit in Fairfield

The suspects attempted to steal over $1,200 in merchandise when loss prevention alerted police. Both suspects had multiple active warrants from several jurisdictions, including Fairfield, Greenwich, and Naugatuck. When officers arrived, Belcher fled on foot but was pursued by police through the parking lot. She managed to enter a vehicle, dragging one officer as she reversed, and collided with another car before escaping the scene. Fire Department Hosts Annual Promotion & Swearing-In Ceremony at Klein Memorial

The event, which began at 5:30 PM, celebrated the promotion of 36 department members, advancing through the ranks of Deputy Fire Chief, Fire Marshal, Assistant Chief, Captain, Lieutenant, Pumper Engineer, and Fire Inspector. Each was formally sworn in during the ceremony. In addition to the promotions, 15 firefighter recruits from Class 02-2023 were officially sworn in after successfully completing their 1-year probationary period, marking a significant milestone in their careers. Family, friends, and fellow firefighters gathered to celebrate the honorees as they continue to serve and protect the community.

Police Investigate Lordship Home Invasion, Suspects Arrested Across Multiple States

On July 15, 2024, Stratford Police responded to a home invasion in the Lordship section of town. Several suspects entered the occupied home in the early morning hours, stealing the victim's vehicle and other valuables. They also removed registration plates from other vehicles in the neighborhood. The investigation was taken over by the Narcotics, Vice, and Intelligence Unit, along with the Fairfield County Auto Theft Task Force. With assistance from the Connecticut Juvenile Probation Division, police departments in Sayreville, NJ, New York City, and New Jersey State Police, the main suspect was identified as 18-year-old Ryeim Robinson from Newark, NJ, who is connected to similar incidents across Fairfield County and beyond. Troopers Arrest Two for Participating in Street Takeover on I-95 in Stratford

On September 21, 2024, at approximately 11:10 AM, Connecticut State Police began receiving 911 calls about the erratic group on I-95 Southbound near New Haven. DOT traffic cameras tracked over 100 motorcycles blocking lanes from New Haven through Stratford, led by a white GMC Denali with an unsecured passenger filming the event from the truck bed. When a Trooper attempted to stop the truck near exit 33, the motorcyclists surrounded the cruiser, preventing the stop.
