Bridgeport News: Man ShotPolice UPDATE--On April 10, 2024, at approximately 6:55 pm Bridgeport Police responded to a ShotSpotter activation and citizen reports of a victim shot within the 1200 block of Park Avenue. Patrol officers responded to that area and quickly located a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was transported to an area hospital via AMR ambulance where he is listed in critical condition. The Detective Bureau has responded and taken charge of the criminal investigation. A large crime scene has been secured on Park Avenue between Laurel Avenue and Wood Avenue. Multiple items of evidence have been observed at the scene. “As Mayor, I directed legal counsel for the City, to file an appeal last week with the Superior Court from the Siting Council granting the United Illuminating Company (UI) a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility and Public Need for the Fairfield to Congress Railroad Transmission Line. The approved plan that the City is appealing would permit the installation of massive utility poles (Monopoles) replacing existing transmission lines within the South End of the city. Bridgeport city attorneys took this action on my direction to preserve and protect our residents and property owners from a poorly designed project. Handheld & Backpack Gas-Powered Leaf Blowers Prohibited Starting May 15

Westport, CT -  The Conservation Department reminds Westport residents and landscape crews that starting on May 15, 2024, the use of handheld and backpack gas-powered leaf blowers are prohibited in Town. Conservation Director Colin Kelly stated, “As of Wednesday, May 15, 2024, gas powered leaf blowers may not be used during Summer. According to the Leaf Blower Ordinance, passed by the RTM in 2023, “Summer” is defined as the days beginning on May 15th and ending on October 15th of each year.”  Kelly continued, “We are getting the word out now, in early spring, to remind everyone about the ordinance.
