UPDATE: The pedestrian struck on July 25, 2020, has been identified as 31-year-old Edward Torres of Bridgeport Connecticut. He continues to be treated at St. Vincent’s Hospital.
Bridgeport Police UPDATE:
On July 25, 2020 at approximately 11:36 pm Bridgeport Police Patrol Officers, Bridgeport Fire Department and AMR responded to the scene of a serious crash on Main St just south of Vincellette St near the entrance to Merritt Canteen.
An unidentified male was operating a white Mitsubishi Lancer bearing CT Registration AT47297 northbound on Main St and as he approached the intersection of Vincellette St he rear-ended an unknown black vehicle. Refer to CFS #2000061308 for a crash report. According to witnesses the 2 operators exited their vehicles and got into a physical altercation in the roadway. During the altercation the operator of the Mitsubishi got knocked down and was lying in the southbound right lane of Main St. A silver Subaru Impreza Station wagon bearing CT Reg AJ80598 driven by Manuel Siguenza-Maldonado DOB 12-18-1956 of Bridgeport, was traveling southbound on Main St and did not see the victim’s body lying in the roadway and striking the pedestrian and running over the victim.
The unidentified individual who had the altercation with the victim fled in a black car north on Main St and no further information on the operator was available at the time of the investigation.
The pedestrian was transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital in critical condition with multiple life-threatening injuries. The identification of the pedestrian is unknown and the identification will be held pending notifications to his family
The operator of the Subaru Impreza was uninjured and released on the scene.
Bridgeport Police Crash Investigation Unit, Sgt Gabe Meszaros, and Officer John Perry responded to the scene. Officer John Perry will lead the investigation.
