#Bridgeport CT– Mayor Ganim, Director of Emergency Management Scott Appleby and Fire Chief Thode said they are ready if an overdose mass casualty happened in Bridgeport like it did in New Haven last week. Over 100 people required medical treatment after the K-2 synthetic marijuana at the New Haven Green.

Chief Thode said city firefighters responded to over 10,000 medical calls and said: “all of our trucks are equipped with defibrillators and Narcan” (which counteracts opioid overdoses). Although Narcan does not work with K-2, he said their new NexGen radio systems can quickly point out spikes in activities and that Scott Appleby’s of multifunctional responses with mass casualty incidents as well as federal assistance. Mayor Ganim said, “you never know what is going to happen, but I think we are as prepared as a community can be even before the New Haven incident”. The mayor gave the credit to Chief Thode and Scott Appleby for the city’s readiness.
