#Westport CT–On Tuesday September 19, 2017 at approximately 3:42pm, patrol units were dispatched to Trader Joe’s, 400 Post Road East, on a complaint that an individual made a purchase using what was identified by store employees as a counterfeit $100.00 bill. The store was alerted to males passing counterfeit bills earlier on this same date at other Trader Joe’s locations in southern Connecticut. The suspect, later identified as Jamel D. Greene, purchased soap with the counterfeit bill, receiving currency in the amount of $88.87 as change. Store staff had seen Greene in the company of at least one other male while in the store, later identified as Patmore Proctor. Store employees were able to provide a description of both suspects to responding officers. Proctor was located at the nearby CVS store attempting to make a purchase and upon
contact with officers was attempting to conceal (2) counterfeit $100.00 bills in his wallet.

Greene was also located by responding officers and upon initial contact refused commands to remove his hands from his pockets. He then attempted to resist being placed in handcuffs by officers. Found on his person was an additional counterfeit $100.00 bill. Both Greene and Proctor had various currency in small denominations on their persons consistent with the crime of passing large denomination counterfeit bills in exchange for valid currency. Greene was charged with 2 counts of Forgery 1 st Degree, Larceny 6 th Degree, Interfering with an Officer, Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 6 th Degree and Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 1 st Degree. Proctor was charged with 2 counts of Forgery 1 st Degree, Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 1 st Degree and Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 6 th Degree. Bond was set at $5000.00 for both.
