Westport News: Man Charged With Heroin After Traffic Stop

#Westport CT--On 08/03/17 at approximately 8:30am, Officer Dave Perez observed a vehicle fail to stop for the red light on Post Road East at the Parker Harding intersection. The vehicle was followed then stopped on Riverside Avenue, and the operator was identified as Michael Gonzales. Gonzales did not have a valid Driver’s License, so he was issued an infraction for Failure to Obey Traffic light and Operating a motor vehicle without a Driver’s License. After informing Gonzales of his infraction, Officer Perez observed that Gonzales was extremely nervous and shaky. Bridgeport Animal Shelter Break Ground on New Dog Play Area

#Bridgeport, CT- Mayor Ganim, Police Chief AJ Perez, and Chief Animal Control Officer Jennifer Wallace came together to break ground on three dog play areas at Bridgeport Animal Control (BAC). The BAC has met their goal of raising $40,000 to make building these outdoor play areas possible. Chief Animal Control Officer Jennifer Wallace said, “Dogs in shelters are susceptible to anxiety and depression but these play areas will greatly reduce these chances by allowing them to interact with other dogs and be outdoors. These play areas will also allow those interested in adoption to interact with the dogs in an open setting.” In 2016, BAC received the approval to build three large play areas for dogs. Stratford News: Police To Wear Body Cameras

After a year of testing and evaluation, the Stratford Police Department has issued body cameras to its patrol force. The cameras are being used during all calls for service.  The cameras are another tool to assist officers with investigations. Camera footage will be used during case review, documentation of evidence, recording of statements and keeping a record of day to day interactions between police and the public. The Stratford Police Department is dedicated to providing quality service to the town and its residents. The Westport Fire Department welcomes home Assistant Chief Michael Kronick after his recent deployment with the White Mountain National Forest Fire Crew #1. For the past 18 days, Assistant Chief Michael Kronick was one of 6 members of the Connecticut Interstate Fire Crew, which is part of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection that was detailed to the White Mountain National Forest Wildfire 20-person fire crew for the two week firefighting assignment. The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection maintains a roster of staff and personnel from local fire departments who are certified to fight wildfires, which in turn allows Connecticut to participate in a reciprocal aid program operated by the U.S. Forest Service.
