Fairfield News: 2 Fishermen Drown – 4 Rescued

7:30am--#Fairfield CT-- Around 7:30am Fairfield Emergency Communication Center received a call for 6 fishermen stranded on Penfield Reef.  Assistant Fire Chief Roger Caisse said that when first responders arrived on the scene, three individuals made their way back to safety, one person was rescued and two were submerged under the water.   Police Chief Gary MacNamara said the individuals were walking towards the lighthouse on the reef when high tide came in and overwhelmed the fishermen.  The chief said the men were closer to the lighthouse then they were to the shore.  Resources from surrounding areas provided dive teams and other resources in the attempted recovery.  At 3:22pm police radio reports said one victim was recovered and the second victim was…

Governor Announces Municipal Aid Update

Today, the Governor gave his update on the Municipal Aid levels for each town. This is the State operating plan until a State Budget is passed. Here is a sampling for selected Towns: Fairfield is reduced by $4 Million,  Milford is reduced by $14 Million, Stratford is reduced by $23 Million, Westport is reduced by $1 Million and Bridgeport is reduced by $31 Million.   You can dance to Tax Man and other great Beetle songs Saturday!

Bridgeport Fire Receives Donated Safety Car

#Bridgeport CT--Mayor Ganim joined Bridgeport Fire Chief Richard Thode to unveil a new fire safety truck on Thursday.  The truck was donated by actor Denis Leary’s The Leary Firefighters Foundation. The Fire Safety Truck will be operated by Bridgeport’s round-the-clock Fire Safety Officer who is responsible for the safety of first responders.  The fire safety unit was formed in 2011 after the loss of Lt. Steven Velasquez and FF Michel Baik the year before. The dedicated officers assigned to this unit are responsible for training firefighters on their shift and responding citywide to all box alarms serving as the Incident Safety Officer. The truck also carries rehab equipment. This company is near and dear to my heart as I had the honor to serve as its Captain for 9 months prior to Department restructuring.
