#Bridgeport, CT – Bridgeport Police are announcing that early this morning, Latrel Baker (DOB: 10/15/96 of 575 Burnsford Ave) was arrested and charged with Manslaughter in the First Degree in connection with the April 30th death of Victor Diaz. He is the being held on a $150,000 bond and is the second person charged in this case.  This relates to an incident on April 27, 2017 when Bridgeport Police responded to Saint Vincent’s Hospital on a report of an assault. According to witnesses, Victor Diaz (DOB: 9/12/1990) was assaulted by several friends at Dewhirst Street and Baker Street, during which he suffered an asthma attack.  Diaz was admitted to the hospital and three days later, on April 30th, 2017, he died. A subsequent autopsy concluded that his death was directly related to the attack and was ruled a homicide.

 

“This was a brutal attack on a young man from Bridgeport by those who were supposedly his friends,” said Bridgeport Police Chief Armando “AJ” Perez.  “Those who participated in this horrible crime are one-by-one being held accountable thanks to the hard work and persistence of the Bridgeport Police.  If you do violence to another person in Bridgeport, we will come after you and we will find you, and you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

 

Last week, another individual Latia Quarles (DOB: 1/19/94 of 575 Burnsford Ave) was arrested and charged with Manslaughter in the First Degree for her role in Diaz’s death. She is being held on $150,000 bond.  Additional arrests, in this case, are expected shortly.
