Stratford News: Armed Standoff

6:20am--#Stratford CT--Bryce Laister age 25 was arrested in Stratford today after a brief armed standoff with police. Laister started the standoff when officers from Shelton and other local agencies attempted to arrest him at 76 Pleasant View Avenue. The incident started at approximately 0620 a.m. and lasted approximately two hours. Laister was charged with the below crimes for his involvement and is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Court on 06-27- 2017. 53a-181 Breach of Peace          53a-167a Interfering with Police                             53a-61aa Threatening in the 1st Degree 53a-217 Criminal Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon              …

Stratford News: Body Recovered From River

UPDATE from Police: The man recovered this evening from the Housatonic River has been positively identified as Tavares Harris.  Harris went missing on June 6th after he crashed his car into the Devon Bridge shortly after midnight and then jumped from the bridge prompting a search and recovery effort that lasted several days and involving numerous surrounding agencies.   4:14pm--Stratford CT-- A kayaker called police to say he found a body floating in the Housatonic River.  Police and fire marine units recovered the man near the Devon Bridge.  The medical examiner was also called to the scene.  The man has not been identified at this time.   Around midnight on June 7 police, fire and Coast Guard were called to look for…

Shelton News: Retired K-9 Passes Away

#Shelton CT--On Tuesday, June 13 th , Shelton Police retired K-9 Jager passed away. K-9 Jager came to the department in 2008 partially through a donation from People’s United Bank. K-9 Jager was paired with his partner Detective Christopher Nugent. K-9 Jager was an asset to the department and assisted several local, state, and federal agencies during his career. K-9 Jager was an effective tool for law enforcement during major investigations in Shelton and other jurisdictions. K-9 Jager and his handler proved to be an effective team by combining Nugent’s law enforcement awareness and K-9 Jager’s willingness to work.
