May 21 through the 27 is National EMS Week.  To start National EMS Week 2017, Stratford EMS will be opening it’s doors and inviting the public in for an Open House on May 21 between 11:00am and 4:00pm. Join us for a fun filled morning for all ages to learn more about Stratford EMS and our volunteers.  There will be refreshments, giveaways and many different informational booths. Meet and take pictures with Star Wars and Ghostbusters characters! Bring your teens to apply for our explorer post. Bring your kids for kid friendly activities, ambulance tours and giveaways. State Farm To Sponsor DOT Truck

HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced a new sponsorship agreement between the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) and State Farm™ that will allow the department to continue the Connecticut Highway Assistance Motorist Patrol (CHAMP).  The program, which will be renamed the “CTDOT State Farm Safety Patrol,” has been in operation for more than 20 years and enhances highway safety by proactively patrolling and assisting stranded motorists, and provides better traffic control at incident scenes to alleviate congestion and prevent secondary crashes.   “Keeping our highways safe requires proactive management of daily traffic incidents in order to ensure that anyone involved remains protected and these occurrences do not become exacerbated by secondary accidents,” Governor Malloy said.  “Our transportation…

Governor Says Homeless Has Dropped

#HARTFORD, CT– Governor Dannel P. Malloy today is applauding the results of an annual census of homelessness in the state, saying that the point-in-time count confirms that the state’s recent efforts to reduce homelessness and increase access to housing are working.   Conducted by the Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness, this year’s census found that homelessness in Connecticut has decreased for a fourth consecutive year and is at its lowest level to date.  Among the statistics found in the census, the nonprofit organization’s report found that:   The overall homeless population has decreased 13 percent during the last year and 24 percent since 2007. Meatball Heaven, located at the Arcade Mall at 1001 Main Street in Bridgeport is not only good food but is also good for local kids.  Meatball Heaven was started in 2016 by Work to Learn, a pre-employment training program that gives work experience to young adults while showing them how to run a successful business through the Boy's and Girl's Village.  At Meatball Heaven the students learn how to cook food, they learn basic job skills, they learn how to clean, the roll and make their own meatballs, the make sauces and they serve them in bread cones, in a grinder over rice or pasta or salad. Ribbon Cut On New Regional Fire School

#Fairfield CT--Yesterday the ribbon was cut at the Captain Joseph S. Elias Fire Training Center and Fairfield Regional Fire School located at 205 Richard White Way (formely One Rod Highway), in Fairfield. The facility was named after Fire Captain Joseph S. Elias who founded formal training for firefighters in the area. Prior to that firefighter training was limited to on the job training. Assistant Fire Chief Scott Bisson who headed the former facility and now this one is a fourth generation firefighter. He told of a story of battling a mill fire in his fourth “veteran” year as a firefighter. The fire chief he was battling the fire with told him and the other men he didn't like to looks…

Norwalk News: Person Shot

#Norwalk Police Update:  On May 18, 2017 at 11:50 PM, the Norwalk Police Department responded to multiple calls of shots fired in the area of 33 Orchard Street. A short time later, Norwalk Hospital reported that a male victim arrived at the hospital suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound. Norwalk Detectives responded to the scene and are actively investigating. Their preliminary investigation has revealed that the shooting was not random and that the victim was likely targeted, however he remains uncooperative.
