#Westport Connecticut–At approximately 3:24pm on December 9, 2016, police were contacted by an employee from the Verizon Wireless Zone located at 385 Post Road East. The employee was reporting that a female customer had attempted to purchase a cell phone upgrade with what appeared to be a fraudulent New Jersey Operator’s License and a fraudulent credit card. The employee became suspicious of the transaction and attempted to take steps to verify the account holder’s identity. The store had also been notified by a Norwalk branch that the same female had also attempted an apparently fraudulent transaction at their store within the last hour. The employee’s questioning caused the customer to cancel the transaction and leave the store. The employee provided a description of the customer and the customer’s vehicle to police. Westport Detective Heinmiller located this vehicle leaving a Verizon store in Southport where another transaction was reported to have been attempted. The vehicle was subsequently stopped and the occupants were detained.
Officers discovered five forged identifications and five forged credit cards hidden within the vehicle. An eyewitness was able to positively identify the suspect who had attempted the Westport transaction. During the course of the investigation it became apparent that this suspect and operator of the vehicle were working together. These suspects are still under investigation and additional arrests may be forthcoming for incidents which occurred in other jurisdictions.
