UPDATE: The New Haven Police Officer involved in the shooting is Ofc. Brian Jackson, a 4 year member of the force. Any questions regarding personnel matters should be directed to the City of New Haven. The investigation continues and the individual shot remains in stable condition.

 

NEW HAVEN, CT. (August 16, 2016): Connecticut State Police Detectives from Central District Major Crime are currently on-scene investigating a shooting incident that involved a New Haven Police Officer earlier today.

On August 16, 2016 at approximately 10:09 a.m., Officers from the New Haven Police Department along with members of the New Haven Fire Department were dispatched to 480 Ferry Street in New Haven for a reported active disturbance. The subject involved in the disturbance was located in the first floor lobby of the building. The subject charged at the New Haven Police Officer with a knife at which time the officer fired several shots from his service weapon. The subject and the officer were transported to Yale New Haven Hospital. The officer was transported as a precaution.

New Haven State’s Attorney Patrick Griffin requested that State Police Detectives from Central District Major Crime Squad respond to the scene and assumed the investigation. The subject has been identified as Roberto Orsini-Rodriguez (DOB: 12/3/77). The identity of the New Haven Police Officer is not being released at this time.
