The Office of Community and Economic Development announced that as part of a renewed emphasis on tourism, the Town of Fairfield unveiled today a new website designed to provide visitors and residents alike with information on upcoming events, local attractions, things to do and places to stay, eat and shop in Fairfield. The new mobile-responsive website, www.ExperienceFairfieldCT.org complements a new Fairfield Town Map and Guide, which is presently being distributed at more than 280 locations in the New York metro area throughout the busy summer tourist season.
“Fairfield is the quintessential New England town with a rich, 375-year history, picturesque coastline and a vibrant and walkable downtown. There’s so much to see and do, all within minutes of each other, making Fairfield a great place to visit, relax and unwind,” said Mark Barnhart, Director of Community and Economic Development.
The website also provides added visibility to local restaurants and retailers, helping to support the Fairfield small business community. Fairfield-based restaurants or merchants selling goods at retail may request a complimentary listing, which includes business name, address, phone number and hyperlink to a website as well as a thumbnail image. “We know that all businesses are continually looking for ways to reach their consumers, yet we recognize that many of our small businesses lack the resources to adequately do so. This website will help, creating a platform to connect visitors with local businesses,” observed Mr. Barnhart. The website allows users to filter content based on a specific neighborhood and/or the type of accommodation, business or cuisine being sought.
The Town partnered with the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce and its hospitality and tourism partners on this initiative. The Town’s Economic Development Department formed an arts and tourism working group this past year and the group has been meeting regularly to discuss ways in which to co-promote the Town and each other’s venues. “We were very excited to be part of this new venture,” stated Beverly Balaz, President of the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce. “We are always looking for opportunities to work with the Town to promote our wonderful community and our many small businesses,” she added.
Michael A. Jehle, Executive Director of the Fairfield Museum and History Center, agreed, stating, “The Fairfield Museum is delighted to partner with the Town on this important tourism initiative that will help promote our extraordinary business and non-profit community to new visitors.” Joe Rog, Director of Development for the Fairfield Theatre Company (FTC), added, “Fairfield is an exceptional destination for arts and entertainment and this website will be a great resource for people interested in visiting the area. We are excited to be a part of it.”
The Town enlisted the help of a Fairfield-based marketing firm, Six7Marketing, to develop the new website. “Six7 did an outstanding job, and was extremely responsive to our needs,” commented Mr. Barnhart. “We gave them an overall design concept, and they were able to execute that plan and help us realize our vision in a very short period of time,” he added.
