GOV. MALLOY ANNOUNCES STATE BEGINS ZIKA AWARENESS CAMPAIGN AT BRADLEY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

#WINDSOR LOCKS, CT – With the summer travel season kicking into high gear over the next several weeks, Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman, and other state officials today announced that a Zika education and warning campaign will soon be underway at Bradley International Airport.   The campaign, a joint effort between the state Department of Public Health (DPH), Connecticut Airport Authority (CAA), federal Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and JetBlue, will focus on passengers traveling to and from San Juan, Puerto Rico on JetBlue’s two daily flights, but will also be seen by other travelers who may be connecting through other airports on their way to areas in the Caribbean, or Central/South America currently affected by Zika virus.  …

Westport Police Department Swears in Two Officers, Promotes One

On Thursday, June 2, 2016, the Westport Police Department welcomed two new officers to the organization and promoted another to the rank of Sergeant. The ceremony took place in the Westport Police Department classroom, where First Selectman Jim Marpe administered the oath of Desk Officer David Librandi was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Sergeant Librandi is a 12-year veteran of the police force, joining the department in February 2004. He served as a field training officer for several years, was appointed to corporal in June 2014, acting desk officer in March 2015 and full desk officer in April 2016. Sergeant Librandi has received several awards during his career including the department’s Medal of Valor in 2008. He lives in Stamford with his wife Michele and two…

Westport News: North Avenue Bridge Closure

#Westport Connecticut--The State of Connecticut Department of Transportation (CT DOT) has informed Town officials that the North Avenue Bridge will be closed to all traffic commencing June 20. It is anticipated that the bridge will be reopened by August 25 and that the overall construction project will be completed by September 15. Detour notices will be in place, residents are urged to seek alternate routes and to allow for additional travel time in that area. The CT DOT has been engaged in the major repair project on the North Avenue Bridge which crosses the Merritt Parkway since early 2015. Due to unforeseen engineering problems and safety concerns surrounding the repair, the original  completion date was extended. Work ceased for the winter months and the bridge was limited…

GOV. MALLOY ANNOUNCES $200,000 FEDERAL GRANT TO EXPAND STATE’S APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING PROGRAM

#HARTFORD, CT– Governor Dannel P. Malloy and the members of Connecticut’s Congressional delegation today announced that the Connecticut Department of Labor (CTDOL) is receiving a $200,000 federal grant from the U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL) to increase and expand participation in the state’s apprenticeship training program.   The award, part of the ApprenticeshipUSA State Accelerator Grant, will help integrate the apprenticeship model into Connecticut’s education and workforce system by working with industry and related partners to bring apprenticeship to new industries and populations.   “We’re continuing to align workforce training with the needs of our employers.  This grant helps us to continue and expand a vital workforce program that has helped thousands of our residents earn while they learn,” Governor…

Curling Items Send Roger Ludlowe MS On Alert

#Fairfield Connecticut-- I just spoke with Fairfield Police Chief Gary MacNamara regarding the suspicious package found in the parking lot today.  He told me that the item was found in the parking lot away from the school.  As a precaution the students were moved to the opposite side of the building, no one was ever in danger.  The officers quickly  identified the items as "home made" curling items but they had to get it confirmed which they did.   I guess this is the most excitement the sport has  ever generated....
