#Westport CT–Westport First Selectman Jim Marpe announced today that he has accepted the retirement letter of Chief of Police Dale Call effective April 1, 2016. After his official retirement date, Chief Call will remain with the Police Department in an advisory capacity until June 30, 2016 to insure a smooth, seamless and professional transition within the department. Mr. Marpe said, “It is with regret that I accept Chief Call’s retirement letter. The Town of Westport and its residents have been very fortunate that Dale’s passion, expertise and experience in law enforcement have benefitted so many throughout the years. In good times and bad, Dale’s calm, level-headed and pragmatic demeanor has proved to be a positive influence on our community. A home-grown Westporter whose family roots run deep in the law enforcement history of our town, Dale became a full-time police officer in 1984. His impressive rise through the ranks since that time is indicative of his intelligence, fierce devotion, drive and determination. Dale is one of “Westport’s Finest” in the truest sense of the phrase. On behalf of the citizens of Westport, his fellow employees, and his law enforcement brothers and sisters, I am grateful for Dale’s longstanding, meritorious and dedicated service. I wish him all the best as he enters this new chapter in his life. He will be sorely missed.” Chief Call stated, “I feel very fortunate to have worked for, with and alongside a lot of good people for more than three decades. I grew up in the Westport Police Department and my time here has given me many fond memories.
While it is difficult to leave, I know that the department Mr. Marpe continued, “Dale’s retirement announcement is bittersweet, but I am very confident that the command of the Westport Police Department will remain in capable hands. To that end, I am pleased to announce today that Deputy Chief Fotios Koskinas will be promoted to Chief effective April 1. From the time he was promoted to Deputy Chief in 2011, Foti has been training for this position. I have the utmost confidence in his abilities and experience. Like Chief Call, he grew up Westport and is a graduate of Staples High School, so he brings a real depth of knowledge about our Town and its residents. I know that he will provide the leadership necessary to maintain the high standards of protection we expect and receive on a daily basis from our first class Police Department.”
