Bridgeport, CT – Mayor Joe Ganim announced more appointments of individuals named to head Bridgeport city departments. Specifically, Mayor Ganim is making public the following appointments:
Nestor Nkwo, longtime Bridgeport Finance and budget official, has been appointed to head the Office of Policy and Management. Nkwo has more than 27 years’ experience in the area of city finances and crafting the budget for the city of Bridgeport. In his new role, Nkwo will be responsible for crafting the city’s budget and operational management for Bridgeport.
Attorney R. Christopher Meyer, former assistant Bridgeport city attorney with 26 years’ experience veteran of the Bridgeport City Attorney’s office, has been appointed to the post of Bridgeport City Attorney. Longtime Bridgeport City Attorney Mark Anastasi will remain on the staff of the legal department. In his role as city attorney, Meyer will serve as chief legal representative of the Bridgeport, overseeing all contracts and litigation, as well as manage the operations and staff of the city attorney’s office.
Janene Hawkins, JD, and Pastor of the Walters AME Zion Church in Bridgeport, has been appointed to the position of Director of Labor Relations. Hawkins has served as a spiritual leader for more than 12 years; seven years at Walters AME in Bridgeport and prior to that as chief of staff and assistant to the Pastor at a church in Mount Vernon, New York. Hawkins also holds a Juris Doctor degree from the Indiana University School of law and has served as a law clerk and employee relations specialist dealing with conflict resolution, employment negotiation and other legal fields. In her role as Director of Labor Relations, Hawkins will lead upcoming labor contract negotiations with various city employee unions as well as oversee adjudication of labor disputes and/or employee discipline issues.
“As I continue to fill the posts in my administration necessary to run the city of Bridgeport well, I am looking for the best candidates to fill each position,” said Mayor Ganim. “I am so pleased to have a richly diverse and talented team of people each dedicated enough to building on Bridgeport’s strengths and improving our quality of life. I am proud to make these appointments of three very qualified, experienced public servants and I have no doubt they will each do great things for our city.”
Mayor Ganim expects to continue to appoint new staff and department heads as the city of Bridgeport’s new administration begins to take shape.
