#Bridgeport, Conn. (Nov. 12, 2015) – Today, the Bridgeport Police Department announced the arrest of a man for several motor vehicle infractions and criminal acts, including possession of a dangerous weapon and possession of narcotics. On Monday, November 9, police officers observed the operator of a vehicle failing to stop at the intersection of Benham Ave. and Coleman St., followed by taking an abrupt turn onto Benham Ave. heading west. While travelling down Benham Ave., the vehicle was swerving in and out of lanes, and nearly struck approximately six properly parked vehicles. After pulling the vehicle over in front of the 1438 Park Avenue building, the police officer noticed that the driver – Hatim Jaoulane (DOB: 05/01/1979) – was attempting to switch seats with the passenger.
Following multiple failed attempts, Mr. Jaoulane climbed to the rear seats of the vehicle and pretended as though he was not the operator of the vehicle.
The police officer instructed Mr. Jaoulane and the passenger to show their hands, and called dispatch for backup. Mr. Joulane’s eyes displayed a glossy appearance, slower pupil response, and his breath along with his clothing gave off a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The police officer asked Mr. Joulane to take a sobriety test. Mr. Joulane refused to take a sobriety test and shouted at the police officer, “I’m not getting out of the car.” As the officer went to put handcuffs on Mr. Joulane, he violently struggled to get free, and after successfully doing so began swinging his fists wildly. After additional struggle, police officers were able to get Mr. Joulane under control and cuffed him. A spring assisted release knife was found in Mr. Joulane’s front left pocket. He was in possession of a Morphine pill, and a Clomzepam pill.
Mr. Jaoulane has been charged with the following criminal acts:
Interfering with an officer. Weapons in M/V. Carrying a dangerous weapon. Possession of narcotics. Bond has been set at $2,500.
He has also been charged with the following motor vehicle infractions:
Operating under influence. Operating under suspension. Failure to drive right. Failure to obey stop sign. Bond has been set at $10,000.
