#Bridgeport, CT – On October 3, 2015 at around 10:20 p.m., a Bridgeport police officer responded to a report of parties unloading a Target store tractor trailer near the corner of Harriet St. and Crescent Ave. Arriving on the scene, the police officer observed the reported Target tractor trailer with the rear door to the trailer halfway open. At this time, the police officer observed three Hispanic males run to a motor vehicle parked facing southbound on Harriet St. directly behind the Target tractor trailer.
The motor vehicle, a 1993 blue Toyota Corolla, was filled with boxes. The police officer approached the three Hispanic males in his patrol car and activated the vehicle’s lights and sirens. All three suspects were able to enter the Toyota and attempted to flee. The Toyota attempted to pass the officer’s patrol car head on, however the street was too narrow for the vehicle to pass. The Toyota then performed a 3-point turn and fled north on Harriet St. towards E. Washington Ave. The police officer followed the Toyota with the vehicle’s lights and sirens still activated. At that point, assisting police patrol cars arrived to the scene traveling south on Harriet St. from E. Washington Ave. The Toyota was forced to stop as it was unable to pass assisting patrol cars due to the width of the road.
All three suspects were taken into custody without incident. “I would like to thank the quick response of the Bridgeport Police Department to catch these individuals,” said Police Chief Joseph L. Gaudett Jr. “I’m grateful for their hard work.” The Toyota was filled with boxes labeled Target. The items included: 2 boxes of dinner sets, 1 box of a coffee maker, 2 boxes of Ninja Coffee bar, 3 boxes of Solar String lights, 1 leather jacket, 1 Steve Madden purse, 1 lamp, 1 wireless stereo headset, 1 box of coffee, and assorted shoes, sunglasses, and clothing. The items were returned to the Target tractor trailer.
Following an inspection of the Target tractor trailer, police officers located the driver of the truck and informed him of the incident. “I’m proud of the work our police officers and detectives do every day to keep our community safe,” said Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch. “This is just another example of their dedication to protecting our city.”
The three suspects were Isaias Rivera (05/09/21) of Brooks St. in Bridgeport, Orlando Rodriguez (06/29/94) of Anthony St. in Bridgeport, and Bryan Perez (10/29/96) of Bird St. in Bridgeport. All three suspects were charged with with burglary, interfering with an officer, larceny, and criminal attempt at larceny. Each bond was set at $20,000.
