UPDATE: Rafael Vasquez, 25 of 181 Hampton Street, Hartford was arrested when the stolen vehicle he was riding in was spotted driving erratically near exit 18 in Westport. State Police attempted to pull the car over but lost sight of it near exit 16. Police learned the vehicle was stolen out of Mamaroneck, New York which lead to speculation from reporters that it may have been one of the escaped convicts from Clinton Correctional Facility on June 6. State Police fielded calls from People Magazine afterwards.
Westport Police picked up the pursuit on Route 1 heading towards Fairfield and Fairfield Police entered the chase when they entered their town. The black Honda Civic then got on I-95 northbound at exit 19 where State Police rejoined the pursuit. The car then exited at exit 26 and Bridgeport Police became involved in the chase who then broke off the pursuit when it entered Stratford which Stratford Police gave chase through their town an onto the Merritt Parkway.
The Honda then was involved in a 2 car accident on the Merritt Parkway near exit 53. The car then proceeded into Trumbull streets, reentered the Merritt Parkway at exit 48. The Honda then got into another 2 car crash at exit 50. The accident caused it to spin out of control and strike a guard rail. Trumbull Police attempted to box him, the driver attempted to continue striking a Trumbull Police car. The suspect was then taken into custody and transported to Troop G State Police barracks for processing. He is being held on a $50,000 bond for charges of reckless driving, engaging police in pursuit, evasion of property and/or physical damage, driving without a license, 3rd degree larceny, interferring/simple assault on a police officer and assault of Public Safety, Emergency Medical, Health Care, or Public Transit Personnel.
10:00am- ish-#Westport CT–A police pursuit starting in Westport ends in a crash in Trumbull. A man in a stolen vehicle took Westport, State Police, Fairfield, Stratford and Trumbull Police on a high speed pursuit. The pursuit was on local Westport Roads, I-95 and Merritt Parkway. Speeds at times reached 100 mph. The car crashed in Trumbull near exit 49 on the Merritt Parkway. Police tell me he crashed into a number of cars in Trumbull and that the car was stolen out of New York.
