Bridgeport Police Issue 1,002 Tickets For Driving Distracted

Bridgeport CT - The Bridgeport Police Department handed out 1,002 tickets for driving while using a mobile phone in April as part of the statewide “U Drive. U Text. U Pay.” enforcement campaign and National Distracted Driving Month. Bridgeport Police joined officers from 50 towns and cities in Connecticut, plus state troopers, during phase 2 of U Drive/U Text/U Pay. Westport News: “Man” Hits Girlfriend Then Dog

On Wednesday May 13th 2015 Westport Officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance between two people living together. During the investigation it was alleged that the boyfriend had become physical with his  girlfriend and then struck her dog prior to throwing it outside of the house. Additionally there was a protective order in place for the suspect from a prior domestic incident. Arrested was Martin Smiley (age 67) of Westport Connecticut Smiley was charged with: Criminal Violation of a Protective Order C.G.S 53a-223 Disorderly Conduct C.G.S 53a-182 Cruelty to Animals C.G.S 53-247 Smiley was issued a $2500 bond and was issued a court date of May 14th, 2015 at Norwalk Court.
