Wednesday, the firefighters and police in Fairfield were put to the test with four major calls that required their know how.  We asked them to see and endure somethings no one should have to see.  Through it all the professionals at the police and fire departments made their town proud, very proud.  But we as a town we have not returned the favor for their valor.  Both departments have been working without a contract.   I’d like to say the town of Fairfield have proven that they are anti-union.  But that isn’t necessarily the case.  Every RTM member I spoke to said they would vote to approve any contract set before them.  The apparent person that is against the unions is First Selectman Tetreau.  He feels he can balance the budget on the backs of these heroes, yet pushes for another glamorous  gazebo on the beach that will be damage in the next big storm.

Firefighters and police started their day helping two high school students in a very serious crash.  Then they were called a gruesome call when a man decided to end his life on the railroad tracks.  Next they showed compassion to two people struck by a car crossing the road.  And if that wasn’t enough they worked to free victims from a car accident once again.

The only time I have ever done editorials has been in support of our police and firefighters.  When you see what they do on a daily basis you can’t help but admire what they do and support them.  Its not like they are asking for a lot.  A very modest cost of living raise and decent health care.

First Selectman Tetreau, I know you meet with the unions tomorrow.  Even if you don’t agree with the contract, present it to the RTM and let them decide.  If I were one of your many opposing candidates for the next election I’d be all over this citing you as anti-union and anti-hero.  Please let the contract go for a vote please.  They deserve way more than they are asking for.   Show them SOME respect please.  Oh, right this has been an editorial…….

Miércoles, los bomberos y la policía de Fairfield se pusieron a prueba con cuatro llamadas importantes que requerían su know how. Les pedimos que ver y soportar tantos nadie debería tener que ver. A través de ella todos los profesionales de los departamentos de policía y bomberos hicieron su pueblo orgulloso, muy orgulloso. Pero nosotros, como una ciudad que no hemos devuelto el favor de su valor. Ambos departamentos han estado trabajando sin contrato. Me gustaría decir que la ciudad de Fairfield han demostrado que son antisindical. Pero eso no es necesariamente el caso. Cada miembro RTM hablé con dijo que votaría a aprobar cualquier contrato pusiesen delante. La persona evidente que está en contra de los sindicatos es Concejal Principal Tetreau. Él siente que puede equilibrar el presupuesto sobre las espaldas de estos héroes, pero empuja a otra glorieta glamorosa en la playa que va a ser el daño en la próxima gran tormenta.

Los bomberos y la policía comenzaron su día ayudar a dos estudiantes de secundaria en un accidente muy grave. Entonces fueron llamados una llamada horripilante cuando un hombre decidió poner fin a su vida en las vías del ferrocarril. Siguiente mostraron compasión para dos personas afectadas por un coche que cruza el camino. Y si eso no fuera suficiente trabajaron para liberar a las víctimas de un accidente de coche, una vez más.

La única vez que he hecho editoriales ha sido en apoyo de nuestros policías y bomberos. Cuando vea lo que hacen a diario no se puede dejar de admirar lo que hacen y apoyarlos. No es como que están pidiendo mucho. Un costo muy modesto aumento de la vida y la salud decente.

Concejal Principal Tetreau, sé que se reúna con los sindicatos mañana. Incluso si usted no está de acuerdo con el contrato, presentará a la RTM y dejar que ellos decidan. Si yo fuera uno de sus muchos candidatos de oposición para las próximas elecciones yo sería todo esto te citando como antisindical y anti-héroe. Por favor, deje que el contrato vaya a votar por favor. Ellos merecen mucho más de lo que están pidiendo. Muéstrales un poco de respeto por favor. Ah, cierto que esto ha sido un editorial …….
